Scope of Responsibility This position leads the day‑to‑day operations of the facility, coordinates progress of projects and directs staff to maximize the effectiveness of plant operations while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This position is also accountable for ensuring the achievement of department objectives through performance of assigned duties and responsibilities in compliance with the organization’s high standards for safety, quality, profitability and customer service. Essential Duties Bias towards safety and quality ensuring compliance with all applicable government regulations and guidelines for both plant and personnel and maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Direct and coordinate all plant activities, regularly reviewing performance against operating plans, established standards, and communicate to subordinates and management on results. Make adjustments and corrections in operations as indicated. Employ innovative solutions and creative approaches when possible. Provide positive, credible, energetic, hands‑on leadership to assigned staff to ensure the achievement of plant and company strategic and operational goals. Proactively provide training and development for the staff. Partner with finance for financial aspects of plant operations including manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and containment. Be responsible for preparing facility budget with finance team while monitoring results against budget/forecast. Develop and maintain appropriate employee–management relationships through proactive leadership, effective regular communications, organizational efficiency and profitable operations. Analyze staffing needs to ensure the facility is properly staffed with qualified individuals at all times to meet business goals and customer requirements. Assist in planning and ensuring the effective and timely execution of all projects and strategies, including any required coordination with other departments/vendors/suppliers to resolve all issues. Keep management informed on all critical operations related matters on a timely basis so issues can be addressed expeditiously. Maintain effective communications within the plant, with other divisions of the company, with the corporate organization and the local community as appropriate. Develop operational programs, policies, procedures and controls. Make recommendations to improve production flow, equipment performance, quality of products and cost savings. Ensure maintenance and security of all necessary company information. Communicate regularly with peer plant managers, direct reports, others in person and through the use of technology. Facilitate daily production meetings to review key performance indicators, plan counter‑measures and share successes as well as report site performance on weekly and monthly intervals to leadership team. Communicate one‑on‑one with direct reports to keep them informed of their progress and/or opportunities for improvement. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Engineering/Engineering Technology or Business) within the steel weldment/structure manufacturing environment. Experience Minimum of 3 years of successful manufacturing and operations experience. Demonstrated progressive experience in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience in effective change management. Demonstrated use of LEAN Manufacturing processes/techniques to drive performance improvement. Ability to develop strong working relationships with direct reports, peers, and company leaders. Experience in leading LEAN environments and continuous improvements. Ability to fluently read, write and speak in English is required. Applies sound business ethics and exhibits a high degree of integrity in all business interactions. Physical Requirements Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions in workflow and constantly changing priorities. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time with the ability to move throughout the office or outside manufacturing plant as needed. Must be able to perform physical activities that require use of fingers, hands and arms, such as sitting, typing, using office equipment and reaching. Some additional physical activities may require walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials. Position requires manual dexterity, arm‑hand steadiness and a safety‑minded individual. Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing as well as answer telephones and greet customers.
