PIPEFITTER LEADER (EXPERT)

Summary You will serve as a PIPEFITTER LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY covering Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, and the Intermediate Maintenance Facility. The position is located in the Pipe Shop (Shop 56). Applicants are considered only within their own UIC. Overview Open from 10/14/2025 to 10/13/2026. Salary ranges from $30.11 to $50.37 per hour, based on location. Pay scale is WL 10. Duties Lead a group of expert pipefitters to ensure work assignments are completed. Install, modify, fabricate, and repair new and existing shipboard system piping and equipment including low and high pressure air, water, and steam systems. Mentor, train, and instruct Pipe Shop employees in a wide range of pipefitting duties. Inspect completed and in-progress work for quality and adherence to requirements, specifications, standards, plans, and schedules. Perform maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, installation, modification, and testing in the shop and onboard ships. Conduct research to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies, procedures, best practices, and tooling improvements. Requirements (Conditions of Employment) Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment and participate in the direct deposit pay program. New employees within the Department of the Navy must pass E‑Verify. May be required to complete a pre‑appointment physical examination. Must obtain and maintain interim and/or final security clearance; failure may result in withdrawal. Must wear personal protective equipment continuously. Must participate in medical surveillance programs. Travel: occasional travel both CONUS and OCONUS on military and commercial aircraft. Must lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform rotating shift work. Drug testing may be required; failure to comply may rescind the offer. Exposure to high noise levels may occur. Qualifications Experience and training that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the duties at the applied level. Emphasis is on the quality of experience rather than length of time. The core competency required is ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE .
