About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neuro Trauma Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1900-0730) Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traches and Vents experience is essential. Two years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU experience is required. Experience setting within the last year is mandatory. Must have drip experience. Willingness to learn about vents is required. Description: This position is in a stepdown unit with a focus on neuro patients. Common diagnoses include strokes, seizures, Guillain Barre syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, and motor vehicle accidents. Patient to nurse ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night, depending on acuity. RNs are required to titrate drips for medications such as Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, and Insulin. Charge nurses take full assignments during the night shift. There are nurse aides present on the unit. Respiratory equipment used includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and others. RNs will read their own telemetry strips from a central monitor located in a different area. Floating to sister units may be required. Self-scheduling is in place, with the manager balancing shifts. Weekend work every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is required. Holiday work typically involves 2-3 holidays during winter and every other holiday otherwise. All RNs must clock in and out of the facility.
