About the Position

Job Title: Mental Health Technician Profession: Mental Health Technician Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year of inpatient psychiatric experience. License: Maine CNA license Certifications: BLS, MOAB (will be obtained on site) Must-Have: Comfortable with redirection and de-escalation, assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and participating in physical holds while using least restrictive measures. Description: Immediate start needed. Simplified interviews followed by manager approval. Must be willing to float between adult and pediatric units as needed. Free-standing acute inpatient facility with all patients medically cleared. Facility has 94 total beds, including pediatric and adult beds. The unit will primarily care for adolescents and pediatric patients. Experience working with adolescent and pediatric patients required. Common diagnoses include autism, self-mutilation, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, gender dysphoria, trauma, and anger management. Patient ratios during the day include 6 psych technicians, while night shifts have 2 psych technicians. Technicians will conduct rounding every 7.5 minutes. Responsibilities include acting as a one-to-one sitter and obtaining EKGs if needed. Support within the department includes a nurse manager and other staff available for assistance. Technology used in the unit includes an EMR system. The unit has seclusion rooms and chair restraints for patient management. Weekend rotation requires working every other weekend, with holiday rotations also expected. Approval of requested time off will go through the manager. Travelers will sign up for preferred shifts in a modified self-scheduling system, with a predetermined weekend rotation. Dress code requires solid color scrubs.
