SmartTalent is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join a manufacturing team in Redmond, WA. This position is responsible for machining, repairing, fabricating, and assembling metal components using manual machining equipment including vertical turning lathes (VTL), horizontal mills, engine lathes, milling machines, and drill presses. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reading blueprints, working to precise dimensions and tolerances, and using precision measuring instruments to ensure finished parts meet specifications.


LOCATION: Redmond, WA


SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday, 5:30am - 4pm


PAY: $27 - $34 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Machine metallic and nonmetallic parts and assemble machined components into complete units using machine shop theory, procedures, shop mathematics, and layout techniques.
• Operate manual machining equipment including VTLs, horizontal mills, engine lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, machining sequences, and setup requirements.
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or work pieces to guide machining operations.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills and lathes.
• Calculate and set machining controls including speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth or angle of cut.
• Monitor machine operation, identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, and adjust manual machine controls as needed.
• Inspect and verify finished work pieces using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies using hand and power tools while verifying dimensions and alignment with micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks, and other measuring equipment.
• Maintain a strong safety-focused work environment and follow applicable shop safety practices and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years of manual machining experience required.
• Experience with VTL and CNC machining is a plus.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, practices, and procedures related to the machining trade.
• Ability to identify and safely use appropriate hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and trigonometry to determine machining cuts and dimensions.
• Ability to read and interpret machine drawings and assemblies and inspect parts using GD&T.
• Ability to communicate effectively with shop personnel regarding product design and fabrication.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• May be required to move items weighing up to 60 pounds for distances of up to 10 feet.
• May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time.
• May be exposed to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, and moderate to loud noise levels.
