Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room provides safe, age-appropriate care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures. They function as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring efficient and evidence-based surgical support within a high-volume, technologically advanced department.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and deliver perioperative nursing care tailored to patient needs and surgical procedures.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff with equipment setup, sterile techniques, and intraoperative support.
• Monitor patient vital signs, anesthesia, and overall status throughout surgeries, responding to emergencies promptly.
• Document all patient care activities accurately within the Cerner/Surginet charting system.
• Adhere to safety protocols related to fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergy, and trauma procedures.
• Maintain compliance with certification requirements and participate in ongoing trauma and emergency response training.

Qualifications:

• Hold a valid Maryland or Compact RN license upon submission.
• Possess at least 2 years of recent OPERATING ROOM experience, including trauma, ENT, colorectal, plastics, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, and other specialties listed.
• Demonstrate proficiency in trauma, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, robotics, vascular, thoracic, and endoscopic procedures.
• Be certified in BLS and have completed a 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course; 8 hours annual trauma CEUs are required.
• Have experience with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic equipment, Steris devices, and emergency OR procedures.
• Be willing to float within scope and possess strong skills in emergency response, fire safety, and allergy precautions.
