JOB SUMMARY

Assists the instructional staff in implementing plans and programs related to the academic or a specialized area to which assigned; performs various non‑instructional tasks in direct support of the teaching‑learning process. Supports student supervision and delivers one‑on‑one or small group instruction to reinforce subjects introduced by the teacher.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Works directly with students individually or in small groups to reinforce subjects initially introduced by the teacher. Assists teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional lessons, methods, strategies and materials to meet the individual needs of students. Organizes materials for each group/student and sets up learning stations, laboratory, and activity centers. Leads or facilitates group discussions, sharing time, recitation, or individual work. Prepares instructional materials such as posters, charts, transparencies, game boards/cards, and assists with bulletin boards, exhibits and displays. Observes and gathers assessment data on students and discusses results with instructional staff. Assists in supervising students in the classroom and may supervise lunch, playground, or bus duties as directed. Assists in the administration of tests/assessment instruments and records data in record books/master charts/assessment forms. Performs clerical tasks including correcting work papers/tests, keeping attendance, maintaining student folders/records and other related duties. Supports teachers and students on special projects, lessons and assignments. Assists in storing, inventorying and requisitioning instructional materials, supplies and equipment. Provides assistance with non‑instructional self‑help skills such as dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene. Helps with housekeeping tasks for laboratory, learning stations and other instructional settings. Attends and actively participates in staff development activities. References or accompanies disruptive students to the principal. Accompanies students on field trips. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Associate’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university; in lieu of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, required. To work in a Title I‑funded school, 48 college credit hours or a passing score on a paraprofessional assessment issued by ETS or NES, required. Experience Previous training and/or experience in an educational or instructional environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Willingness to learn and implement instructional methods, strategies, and techniques. Ability to exercise patience, courtesy, tact, and good judgment in working with students, teachers, administrators, fellow employees, and parents. Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Proficiency with business technology applications such as Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) preferred. Licenses and Certifications Hold or be eligible for a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition. To work in a Title I‑funded school, a passing score on a paraprofessional assessment issued by ETS or NES. Driving Requirements None Physical Demands / Working Conditions Standing, walking, sitting and keyboarding various proportions of time as required by duties. No special vision requirements. Work primarily in an indoor environment with moderate noise. Lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds under one‑third of the time.
