Program Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:The Program Instructor at Camp Westwood YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This is done through a variety of skill-based activities including to but not limited to archery/target sports, crafts, high adventure challenge, paddle sports, sailing, swimming, sports, teambuilding and service activities. We create an amazing moments and people.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To create a magical experience for everyone who comes to a YMCA programAbility to facilitate programs in the outdoors. We operate rain or shine, cold or hot. Staff should be prepared for New England weather.Facilitate incredible programming with a variety of guests from all backgroundsPrograms staff may need to facilitate, but are not limited to:Target sports, aquatics, high ropes challenge course, sports, crafts, teambuilding, biking, cooking and other.Plan and implement activates that are developmentally appropriate, safe, related to camp themes (as applicable), and engagingBe able to perform songs, skits and presentationsPlan, prepare and assist with special events hosted by the camp.Maintain a positive relationship with staff, campers, and family membersWork as a team through positive approach and clear communication with othersAttend all required work shifts, staff trainings and meetingsAssist with facility upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance to provide the best experienceProvide active supervision and programs that exhibits high standards in cleanliness and preparationUpholds and exemplifies the YMCA valuesPerforms all other duties as assigned by supervisorQUALIFICATIONS:Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.CPR, First Aid, and AED within 2-weeks of hireRed Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Certification or able to obtain. Training available with YMCAChild Abuse Prevention training required before hire.Previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred.Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, high ropes challenge course, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games.Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with all people, from all walks of life.Commitment and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
