RN Mother Baby

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Mother Baby unit provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns, including antepartum, intrapartum, preoperative, circulatory, and PACU support. The RN collaborates with the healthcare team to assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans, and educate patients and families. This role requires strong clinical skills, leadership as a charge nurse, and flexibility to float to other departments as needed. A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with relevant certifications is required. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and analyze data to determine nursing diagnoses and issues.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans to achieve expected patient outcomes.
• Provide skilled nursing care to mothers and newborns throughout antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and monitor patient responses.
• Act as Charge Nurse, overseeing unit operations and coordinating patient care activities.
• Float to other departments as a safety companion when required.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families to promote health and safety.
• Maintain professional development and comply with hospital policies, including continuing education requirements.
• Participate in stroke competency education and adhere to relevant protocols.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to peers and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Montana Registered Nurse licensure.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• STABLE certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification with recertification every 2 years.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery or mother-baby care.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and patient care planning skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in antepartum, intrapartum, preoperative, circulatory, and PACU nursing.
• Competence in modified primary nursing practice.
• Stroke competency knowledge and participation in cerebrovascular disease education.
• Experience acting as Charge Nurse.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work varied shifts including night shifts.
• On-call duties may be required to respond promptly to patient and organizational needs.
• Flexibility to float to other departments as a safety companion.
• Work environment includes exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, walking, bending, and fine motor skills.

Scheduling:

• Full-time position at 0.9 FTE, primarily night shift.
• Schedule may require working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
• Regular and sustained attendance is required.
