This role is critical to MMS’s transition to a standalone company. The TRP team provides practical, business-oriented legal support across operations, technology, data, compliance, and risk-related matters, helping the business achieve its objectives while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk. The role reports to the Managing Principal Counsel, Technology, Risk & People.This role will provide day-to-day legal support on healthcare regulatory and compliance matters, including support for regulatory risk assessments, policy development, investigations, compliance monitoring, training, and enterprise risk management initiatives. The successful candidate will partner closely with Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, and business stakeholders to identify legal and regulatory risks, develop practical solutions, and support informed business decision-making. The ideal candidate exercises sound judgment, communicates effectively with both legal and business audiences, and thrives in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities. This position offers the opportunity to help build scalable compliance processes and contribute to the growth of a newly independent healthcare organization.Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Counseling: Provide practical, risk-based legal advice on healthcare regulatory and compliance matters, including regulations applicable to medical devices, controlled substances, healthcare operations, and related business activities.Compliance Program Support: Partner with Compliance and business teams to identify, assess, and help mitigate regulatory and compliance risks.Risk Assessment & Monitoring: Support regulatory risk assessments, audits, investigations, monitoring activities, and corrective action initiatives.Drafting: Draft and review policies, procedures, training materials, compliance guidance, and other regulatory-related documents.Collaboration: Partner with Legal, Compliance, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, and business stakeholders to proactively identify regulatory risks and develop practical, business-oriented solutions.Regulatory Research & Guidance: Monitor legal and regulatory developments and translate evolving requirements into actionable guidance for business and functional teams.Execution & Adaptability: Manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.QualificationsMinimum RequirementsJD from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar membership.7-10 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house legal department.Experience advising on healthcare regulatory, compliance, risk management, or related legal matters.Critical Skills & ExperienceExperience with:Healthcare regulatory compliance counselingCompliance program development and supportRegulatory risk assessment and mitigationPolicy and procedure developmentInternal investigations, audits, monitoring, or corrective action initiativesCross-functional counseling in a highly regulated industryWorking knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.Foundational knowledge of regulations applicable to medical devices, controlled substances, and related healthcare products and services.Familiarity with enterprise risk management principles and processes.Strong drafting, issue-spotting, and legal analysis skillsStrong research and problem-solving skills.Ability to provide clear, practical legal guidanceProven ability to adapt to evolving business needs and operate effectively in ambiguous situationsStrong collaboration and communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in the healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare technology, or healthcare distribution industries.Experience supporting compliance programs involving FDA-regulated products, controlled substance compliance, quality systems, or related healthcare regulatory frameworks.Additional InformationHybrid work model (Richmond, VA (Preferred); Jacksonville, FL; Alpharetta, GA)Up to 25% travelAuthorizationMust be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not availableAbout McKesson Medical-Surgical McKesson Medical-Surgical (MMS), which is expected to become Wellverse in early 2027, is a subsidiary and publicly reported segment of the McKesson Corporation.
