Financial Manager Starting Date: July 1, 2026 Location: Central Office, Kansas City, Kansas Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and employs about 4,000 staff. Job Goal Assist in the daily operation of the Risk Assessment Department by applying strong financial acumen to support student activity funds. Manage accounting and compliance transactions—including cash receipts, disbursements, journal entries, student fees, fund‑raising, and banking—under the supervision of the Director of Risk. Serve as the primary contact for cash‑management procedures for treasurers and facilitate collaboration between treasurers and Central Office departments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Act as day‑to‑day contact for treasurers managing student activity funds. Manage cash receipts, disbursements, transfers, sales‑tax reporting, audit documentation, and month‑end reconciliation. Conduct training for new and existing treasurers on student activity related procedures. Serve as substitute treasurer during vacancies to ensure efficient operation of funds. Coordinate school banking needs and quarterly treasurer meetings. Perform periodic on‑site visits to review treasurer bookkeeping and provide feedback to the Director of Risk. Monitor and report compliance matters to the Director of Risk per standard operating procedures. Assist with internal audits and maintain the Student Activity Manual. Perform other duties as assigned. COMMUNICATION & ORGANIZATION Maintain proactive communication between treasurers and the Director of Risk. Utilize existing technology, reporting, and accounting systems effectively. Cooperate with other Central Office departments to meet educational and extracurricular needs. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 6 years of financial, business, or banking experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Knowledge of Sarbanes‑Oxley Act (SOX) compliance. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Business Plus and Infinite Campus systems is a plus. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and project‑management skills. Reliable transportation and willingness to work additional hours when required. Maintains high ethical standards and confidentiality. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled forms in situations with limited standardization. LANGUAGE SKILLS Proficiency in reading, writing, and presenting information in professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations to administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Regular standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing. Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
