OB Technician

Perform a variety of technical duties to assist with obstetric surgery and patient care in the labor and delivery areas. Function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in obstetrical services and maternal and newborn areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a medical provider. Assist nursing and medical staff with the performance of procedures and tests. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and perform care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) insertion, Foley Catheter care, and documentation of observations in the health record. Prepare patients for exams and procedures, and assist with treatments. Measure and record vitals, intake/output, height/weight, and other clinical data. Perform point of care testing for glucose monitoring and assist with other bedside diagnostic procedures as needed. Collect blood and urine specimens, ensuring they are appropriately identified, labeled, and transported. Support care team during vaginal births, prepare instruments, and maintain equipment such as fetal monitors and infant warmers. Ensure patient dignity, privacy, and comfort while rounding on patients and communicating changes in condition to the Registered Nurse and care team members. Maintain sterile equipment, sterile fields, and surgical tables; assist with room turnover and sterilization of environments. Implement infection control practices and ensure clean and safe patient environments. Order, receive, stock, and distribute supplies and equipment, ensuring sterile integrity. Attend staff meetings and educational sessions while participating in quality improvement initiatives. Serve as a technical resource for surgical instruments and equipment responsibilities.
