This role involves the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human response. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a core responsibility of the RN. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This includes adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and professional ethical standards. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Job responsibilities include: Assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a group of patients. Serving as a primary nurse and being accountable, based on unit assignment and safety considerations. Educating patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources. Administering medications safely and in accordance with policy. Engaging in effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management. Complying with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements. Participating in Nursing Shared Governance and supporting improvement initiatives. Engaging in professional development and completing mandatory education requirements. Integrating nursing research and current evidence into practice. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Requirements for preferred skills and experience include previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting and professional certification in a related specialty.
