Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Performs essential role in preparation, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of sterile and nonsterile medication within designated surgery and procedural areas.
• After prescription/order(s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and alerts pharmacist to any concerns so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered.
• Receives, reviews, and prepares physician order for sterile, non-sterile, and controlled substance medications.
• Performs accurate product identification, labeling, dosage calculation, and compounding of agents by utilizing package literature, written procedural guidelines, and application of specialized knowledge.
• Successfully completes assignments and maintains annual competencies to compound non-hazardous IV sterile preparations according to USP standards.
• Follows proper aseptic preparation techniques when compounding hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
• Reviews anticipated inventory needs and notifies procurement technician in a timely manner of products required.
• Assists in maintaining all required records related to sterile compounding and controlled substance dispensing.
• Maintains inventory in Anesthesia Workstations and other automated dispensing cabinets in the surgical and procedural areas. Adds/removes product and adjusts par levels based on utilization reports.
• Assists with investigating and resolving controlled substance discrepancies.
• Maintains surgery satellite medication inventory, compounding supplies, and cleaning products to ensure availability and minimize waste.
• Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly SCA room cleaning to include check for soon to expire medications.

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 0530 - 1400. Holiday shifts should be expected and based off the services needs.
