Under limited supervision, performs radiographic imaging examinations for patients in ANMC clinics. Responsibilities: All
Performs diagnostic imaging examinations according to department procedures. Locates and records internal elements of the body. Monitors the patient for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes. Recognizes abnormal changes and immediately notifies physician. Adjusts equipment and positions patient to produce diagnostic radiographs. Instructs patients in pretest preparation, answers questions and explains procedures. Performs exams including the palpation of body landmarks while maintaining patient dignity and modesty. Works directly with radiologist, other physicians and speech pathologist performing fluoroscopic examinations. Prepares and administers contrast agents. Provides exceptional patient care and customer service to patients, coworkers and other departments. Effectively communicates and works with other departments on a regular basis. Evaluates orders for appropriate medical history, researches unclear orders and corrects errors with the ordering provider. Evaluates test results for clarity and accuracy; reviews radiographs with peers according to department procedures. Logs data into electronic medical record, and updates PACS for exams performed. Cleans and sanitizes equipment and workspace. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and readjusts equipment or requests repair. Maintains a neat and clean department and follows infection control procedures. Adheres to all principles of ALARA. Uses available radiation protection devices and follows all policies relating to radiation safety for self, coworkers and patients. Provides over the phone assistance to teleradiology sites. Takes call and reports to the hospital ready to work within 30 minutes of being called in. (Anchorage residents) Performs other duties as assigned.
Radiology Technologist II
May cross-train peers as required. Works with, trains, monitors and provides feedback to students of radiologic technology on a regular basis. Evaluates student exams and radiographs.
Radiology Technologist III
Takes on additional duties to assist in departmental operation. May be tasked to oversee the department during supervisor's absence. Is highly competent performing fluoroscopic examinations. May be called on to research and coordinate exams with referring clinicians and radiologist. Assists peers in evaluating orders, researching unclear orders and correcting errors, test results, logging data into the electronic medical record, and updating PACS. Conducts training with new employees and assists them in meeting competency criteria. Cross-trains peers as required. Knowledge of radiography as demonstrated by registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Knowledge of Cerner Electronic Health Record system
Knowledge of diagnostic technologist principals, practices and concepts
Knowledge of diagnostic protocols, techniques, and requirement
Knowledge of reference standards and regulatory requirements for radiography safety.
Knowledge of emergency procedures, sterile practices, infection control, basic life support, and other applicable practices
Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices, and techniques including concepts of accumulated dosage and genetic changes, effects of radiation on living organisms, and the effects of x-ray techniques on patients and operator exposure.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, such as the location, appearance, and function of major and minor systems subject to radiological imaging, in order to interpret the examination request accurately.
Skill in interpersonal relationships.
Skill in radiologic positioning, exam procedures and basic nursing practices related to radiography, including emergency procedures, sterile operating room practices, infections control techniques, and cardiac arrest techniques (CPR).
Skill in monitoring patient responses and operating defibrillator equipment.
Skill in performing radiology testing procedures.
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

An Associate's Degree in diagnostic radiography or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Radiology Technologist II Non-supervisory - One (1) year of professional work experience in Radiography
Radiology Technologist III Non-supervisory - Three (3) years professional work experience in Radiography

Must be able to lift, push and/or pull up to 200 pounds. (i.e. gurneys, wheelchairs, equipment and C-arms) on a regular basis.
Must be able to reach and/or bend (i.e. reach above the head, out to the sides and down to the floor) on a regular basis.
Must be able to wear PPE (i.e. respirators, surgical mask, exam gloves and lead garments) on a regular basis.
Must be able to assist patients transferring between wheelchairs and exam tables.
Must be able, with or without help, transfer patients between gurneys and exam tables.
ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time.
May be occasionally exposed to hazardous materials or infectious diseases.
