Product Designer

Who We Are

Vista Auction is an online auction for returned and overstock goods. Items go up for auction in our mobile app, people bid, and winners pick up at our warehouses near Charlotte, North Carolina.

We serve more than 55,000 customers a month, sell over 25,000 items a day, and take more than 7 million bids a month. And we're just getting started!

We run our own warehouses and build our technology in-house, giving our development team a direct connection to the customers and employees using what they build. We’re fast-paced and hands-on: an idea can ship and be measured in days.

Your Role

As our Product Designer, you’ll report to the Head of Engineering and own product design across our app, website, internal systems, tools, and AI agents. You’ll work with the Head of Engineering and founder to shape design priorities, bringing customer and employee needs into product decisions.

You’ll collaborate directly with developers and operational teams to understand how our tools are used, identify opportunities for improvement, and design practical solutions. Your involvement will extend from defining the problem and testing ideas through implementation and evaluating results.

Key Responsibilities

• Own design for the mobile app and web app. Discovery, flows, prototypes and final specs for how bidding, winning, paying and pickup work.
• Bring ideas for how auctions should work. Lot pages, bidding mechanics, notifications, scheduling and store credit are all open. Propose changes that move bids, repeat customers and pickup speed.
• Be the voice of the customer and employees. Run usability tests, study behavior in the data, and turn it into journey maps and clear recommendations.
• Work with engineers from the first sketch. Shape requirements, keep designs buildable, and review what ships against what you designed.
• Test and iterate. With tens of thousands of sales a day, a change shows up in the numbers within a week.
• Own the design system. A shared component library for iOS, Android and web that meets WCAG.
• Present your work. Explain design decisions to engineering and leadership, and change them when the evidence says to.

Required Qualifications

• A portfolio of end-to-end case studies on shipped products. This is the main thing we screen on.
• 2 to 5 years of product design experience, or 3+ years owning a product area on consumer mobile and web.
• Figma (or functional equivalent) proficiency.
• Hands-on user research: interviews and usability tests you ran yourself.
• Design system and accessibility (WCAG) experience.
• You write your own briefs and specs and work directly with engineers.
• Fluency with iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $85,000–$120,000 , depending on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated design expertise.

Benefits

• Medical insurance
• Paid time off and company holidays
• Work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks of the year
• Equipment budget to make you feel right at home, plus a Macbook
• In-house access to leadership training and mentorship

Life @ Vista Auction

• Act on good ideas. If something is worth doing, do it.
• The customer gets two chances. When a policy and a customer collide, we fix the policy.
• Ship it, measure it, fix it. Changes go out in days. Numbers beat opinions, including the founder's.
• Remove, don't add. If a feature needs a paragraph to explain, the feature is wrong.
• Say the plain thing. Short messages, honest estimates, no jargon.
• Build it ourselves. We own our stack, our data and our decisions.
