Through innovative vessel operations, industry-leading safety standards, and a commitment to environmental stewardship, TOTE delivers critical supply chain solutions for customers and communities.At TOTE, Safety is a Core Value embedded in every aspect of our operations.What You’ll DoSupport the administration and execution of TOTE’s Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Compliance (HSSE) ProgramsConduct routine safety inspections, compliance audits, workplace assessments, and risk evaluationsIdentify, evaluate, and mitigate operational and workplace hazardsInvestigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and implement corrective actionsMonitor and analyze safety performance metrics, trends, and compliance indicatorsEnsure compliance with OSHA, USCG, DOT, EPA, Coast Guard, and maritime regulationsSupport regulatory inspections, internal audits, and compliance reviewsMaintain accurate safety records, permits, documentation, and compliance filesFacilitate employee safety training, toolbox talks, and safety awareness programsSupport emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activitiesPartner with vessel crews, terminal personnel, contractors, and leadership teams to strengthen safety performanceMonitor contractor safety compliance and site access requirementsDevelop and track corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiativesPrepare detailed reports, presentations, investigations, and recommendations for leadershipWhat We’re Looking ForRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Maritime Studies, Industrial Hygiene, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience3+ years of experience in safety, compliance, transportation, logistics, terminal, maritime, industrial, or environmental operationsWorking knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirementsExperience conducting safety audits, inspections, investigations, root cause analysis, and risk assessmentsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExceptional organizational skills and attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and reporting toolsPreferred QualificationsExperience in maritime, terminal, transportation, logistics, warehousing, or industrial environmentsKnowledge of USCG, DOT, EPA, ISM Code, and maritime regulatory requirementsOSHA 30 CertificationCSP, ASP, CHST, or other safety-related certificationsExperience supporting ISO, ISM, HSSE, or compliance management systemsBilingual English/Spanish preferredCore CompetenciesSafety LeadershipPromotes a strong safety-first culture through engagement, accountability, education, and proactive risk management.Regulatory ComplianceMaintains expertise in OSHA, USCG, DOT, EPA, and maritime compliance standards.Risk Assessment & Hazard RecognitionIdentifies workplace hazards and develops effective mitigation strategies.Attention to DetailEnsures accuracy in audits, investigations, reporting, compliance documentation, and corrective actions.Problem SolvingAnalyzes incidents and develops practical solutions to improve safety performance.Communication & CollaborationBuilds strong partnerships with operations, vessel personnel, terminal teams, contractors, and leadership.Continuous ImprovementDrives initiatives that improve safety performance, compliance, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.Integrity & AccountabilityDemonstrates professionalism, ethical decision-making, and ownership of responsibilities.Work EnvironmentWork performed in both office and operational environmentsFrequent interaction with terminal operations, vessel crews, contractors, and business partnersExposure to marine terminals, vessels, warehouses, cargo handling equipment, and active operational environmentsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsOccasional travel may be requiredMust be available to respond to operational incidents, emergencies, and compliance investigations as neededCompensation & BenefitsCompensationCompetitive compensation based on experience, education, certifications, and qualifications.BenefitsAs part of the team, full-time employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:Medical, dental, and vision insuranceLife insuranceShort-term and long-term disability coverageEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)401(k) with company match and discretionary fundingTuition reimbursementSupplemental parental leaveProfessional development and safety certification opportunitiesPaid Time OffVacation timeSick leavePaid holidaysFloating holiday opportunities (where applicable)Why Join TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico?At TOTE, you’ll join an organization committed to Safety, Operational Excellence, Environmental Stewardship, Customer Focus, and Continuous Improvement.
