It Field Technician

Job Overview One of TEKsystems' clients, a Fortune 500 company and leader in their respective industry, is looking for an IT Specialist – Field Support Technician. The position involves maintaining positive working relationships with plant, area, and regional operations management and personnel, and overseeing area installations, migrations, and performance of IT infrastructure technology in business offices, plant, and operational environments. Responsibilities Project manage area installations, migrations, and problem resolution for complex chronic technical issues. Provide installation and support of field IT technology, including wireless, network wiring, LAN/WAN networking, surveillance systems, terminals, PCs, printers, time systems, and point‑of‑sale interfaces. Coordinate with technicians, enterprise telecom, system integration resources, vendor sales, support, management, and technical resources. Support voice and data copper and fiber infrastructure requirements, documentation of technology inventory, and cabling layout. Serve as project manager of small‑to‑medium scale telecom projects and assist with telephone and voicemail system installations. Coordinate with outside contractors to ensure company standards, practices, and safety requirements are met. Perform advanced problem solving, root cause analysis, and develop checklists for typical problems. Maintain technology spare parts/equipment inventory for remote support and travel to remote sites as required. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in computer science, telephony, electronics, or equivalent. Minimum five years of experience in computer support, telephony installations, infrastructure design and installation, carrier services, or networking environment. Knowledge of wireless, network wiring, LAN/WAN networking, grounding and electrical principles, terminals, PCs, printers, time systems, video camera installations, and point‑of‑sale interfaces. Experience with asphalt controls, ready‑mix batch panels, and aggregate plant automation systems optional. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, ability to consult with users, retrieve system troubleshooting data, and verify system functionality. Organizational and project planning abilities, including estimating, coordinating IT projects, prioritizing daily support demands, and meeting quality results. Familiarity with project tracking and working with teams of technical resources to meet objectives on schedule and budget. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective working relationships with end‑users, information services, vendors, and helpdesk team. Self‑directed, ability to handle own projects and work remotely with minimal supervision while keeping manager informed. On‑call support for production systems, ability to climb ladders and man lifts, carry up to 40 pounds, and work safely in hazardous environments with MSHA certification. Valid driver’s license, ability to travel locally and out of state, and maintain a company‑assigned vehicle. Additional Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate would have experience leading people and projects, with leadership potential considered. The role requires 80–100% travel, predominantly within a reasonable driving distance, and emphasizes safety standards (MSHA, hard hat, boots, etc.).
