POSITION DUTIES

Come join the Comptroller of Maryland team, located in beautiful downtown Annapolis. We are in search of someone who has excellent communication skills, a good attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow in a demanding environment. This is a supervisory level position with the Audit Preparer and Oversight in the Special Projects Section of the Revenue Administration Division. This position performs and oversees the performance of auditors who will be conducting financial and compliance audits, to ensure the propriety of tax form data submitted by taxpayers and tax preparers. These job duties will include conducting pre-audit and post-audit research showing the purpose of the audit, including identifying questionable returns, reviewing identity theft, auditing transactions, preparing audit reports, examination and researching individual taxpayer information. The audit process also includes assisting with the audit review process of tax preparers participating in Maryland's Modernized Electronic Filing ('MeF') program. You will also serve as the Case Management System (CAMS) Administrator for the Revenue Administration Division. This job is eligible for telework after successful completion of a probationary period. Please Note: May be requested to work evenings and/or Saturdays during Tax Season. For the purpose of this statement, Tax Season shall be defined as the period beginning January 15th and closing May 15th.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Four years of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency, grantee, business or other entity.

NOTES:

• Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement.

• Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

• Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for one year of auditing experience only.

• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of Federal and State tax law.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience with handling large volumes of work and prioritizing.
• Experience with computer applications.

• Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
• Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
