We are currently seeking a driven, proactive and motivated Accountant to join our team in Japan. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, Japan (CFO), this role is responsible for accurate and timely postings, reconciliations, and reporting support, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and local regulatory requirements. The role requires strong attention to detail, willingness to learn technical accounting concepts, and the ability to work across end-to-end finance processes. Your Role: The Accountant will contribute to a range of activities, including but not limited to the following: General Accounting: • Execute routine general ledger postings for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards as well as internal accounting guidelines • Perform quarterly and annual closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations • Review and process expense claims in Concur (employee reimbursements), including user support and handling related ad-hoc tasks • Perform active cash management activities to ensure adequate working capital and liquidity within internal guidelines, including daily cash positioning and accurate reconciliation of bank balances • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual interventions Technical Accounting: • Check and process reinsurance statements of account for Life and Health business • Ensure postings follow defined accounting flows, chart of accounts, and booking rules • Liaise with relevant teams to ensure data completeness and integrity • Prepare and maintain reconciliations for technical balance sheet accounts • Support/perform quarter-end and year-end closing for technical accounting areas • Proving movement analysis and variance explanations • Assis in preparing supporting schedules and documents for local regulatory reporting • Maintain adequate documentation of internal processes and ensure compliance with internal guidelines • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual interventions Your Profile: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field • At least 2-4 years of relevant finance or accounting experience preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry • Experience in both general accounting and exposure to insurance/reinsurance accounting is a plus • Experience with financial software (preferably SAP and Concur) and Microsoft Office • Interest in, or openness to using AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Japanese • Clear and professional communication skills (both written and verbal) • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines • Proactive mindset with willingness to learn • Ability to work in an international and cross-functional environment At Munich Re, we embrace, and value, the interaction of diverse backgrounds, experience, perspectives and thought.
