Job Description

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Supervises staff performing the transportation of patients for medical appointments using van, wheelchair van, sedans and other appropriate vehicles in the fleet.
• Supervises staff operating platform, van, stake and dump trucks, passenger shuttle, and cargo vans which have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds.
• Oversees the preparation of trip tickets, maintenance service records and reports of accidents.
• Completes required performance ratings and documents employee work performance, noting deficiencies and merits during the rating period. Supervisor identifies training needs and plans in-services for employees (new and refresher) according to assigned needs. Incumbent counsels employees on personal and work-related matters and recommends improvements in work methods and procedures. Also determines disciplinary actions and awards.
• Responsible for supervisory oversight which includes environmental sanitation, waste management, and pest management.
• Organizes and directs staff in productive daily work schedules and accomplishes work within established policies of EMS. Makes daily inspections of areas serviced by Aids to ensure adequate coverage and proper work performance, observes quantity and quality of work performed by housekeeping staff and work leaders advising them of conditions that do not meet prescribed standards and regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for the control, use and maintenance of numerous pieces of environmental sanitation equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, vacuums, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors.
• Monitors the budgetary and vehicle maintenance needs of the Department.
• Safely loads, secures, and unloads passengers who may or may not have a disability, their belongings, and any passengers' durable medical equipment, if necessary.
• Overall responsible for vehicles interior and exterior cleanliness, making sure daily safety inspections of each vehicle used are done, and following the procedures for deficiencies and mishaps.
• Reads a map, GPS or follows verbal alternative directions to reach the desired destination.
• Makes judgments as to the safe turning radius, side/overhead clearances, and selecting the appropriate route given the size of the vehicle driven.
• Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
• Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
• Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
• Maneuvers vehicles over uneven terrain and/or unimproved roads.
• Operates vehicles which transport up to 14 passengers.
• Operates heavy-duty front-end loader (Tractor) for snow removal operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
