A fast-growing personal injury law firm in Houston is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support the firm’s medical records and case preparation process. This role is responsible for requesting, tracking, organizing, and managing medical records and bills from providers and facilities across active personal injury cases. The right candidate is organized, persistent with follow-up, and comfortable working in a high-volume legal or medical environment.

Responsibilities

• Request and track medical records, bills, and itemizations from hospitals, clinics, and providers
• Follow up regularly on outstanding records requests
• Log and audit received records and bills in the case management system
• Verify that records are complete and match outstanding request lists
• Prepare and maintain HIPAA authorization forms
• Organize and index medical records for attorney and case manager review
• Communicate professionally with medical providers and billing departments
• Assist with calculating medical specials for demand preparation
• Maintain accurate status logs and provide updates to the legal team
• Support the broader pre-litigation team with administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications

• 1+ years of legal assistant, medical records, or healthcare administrative experience preferred
• Personal injury experience strongly preferred
• Familiarity with medical terminology and records request processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organization
• Ability to manage a high volume of requests in a fast-paced environment
• Microsoft Office proficiency required
• Legal case management software experience is a plus
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
