Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Job Overview The Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to patients under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the attending physician. Duties include medical evaluation, treatment, counseling, and referrals, as well as diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic remediation, surgical assistance, and pharmaceutical prescription. Job Duties and Responsibilities Competent in the assessment, treatment, counseling, and education of patients and their families. Evaluating patients and performing physical examinations, including obtaining and updating medical histories. Administering or ordering diagnostic tests (radiologic and laboratory studies) and accurately interpreting results. Developing and implementing appropriate patient management and treatment plans based on assessment of needs. Coordinating and communicating patient care effectively with other healthcare professionals and institutions. Providing high‑quality health care based on best practices and evidence‑based medicine. Performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures aligned with granted clinical privileges. Conducting virtual care services via St. Luke’s virtual care platform, including live interactive assessments, diagnoses, and treatments. Maintaining professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networks, and professional societies. Completing required continuing medical education. Participating in research, development, implementation, and tracking of clinical management guidelines. Teaching multidisciplinary students (nursing, nurse practitioner, pharmacy, physician assistant, medical, etc.) and physician residents & fellows, fostering a positive educational environment. Participating in AP student clinical rotation preceptorship when assigned. Demonstrating performance improvement in clinical care/outcomes, customer/service improvement, operational system/process, and safety. Competent in utilizing electronic medical records, ensuring accurate documentation for optimal billing of professional services. Demonstrating financial responsibility by using resources effectively and efficiently in daily procedures, processes, and practices. Performing routine health maintenance activities for new and established patients. Coordinating patient care and family counseling with public and mental health agencies as appropriate. Teaching wellness habits and educating patients on prevention of potential health problems or methods for managing existing problems. Providing information and materials related to patient health care needs. Physical and Sensory Requirements Sitting up to 8 hours per day, in 3‑hour intervals. Standing up to 8 hours per day. Walking up to 6 hours per day. Frequently lifting, carrying, and pushing objects up to 10 pounds; rarely up to 75 pounds. Frequently stooping, bending, reaching above shoulder level, and handling, grasping, twisting, and turning during procedures. Proficient in tactile perception, hearing, vision (general, near, far, color, peripheral), and speaking for normal conversation and presentations. Education and Certification Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Physician Assistants must also hold current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
