Lead Automotive Trim Pattern EngineerLocation: Troy, Michigan | Contract: Open-ended | Compensation: $50.00–$60.00 per hour (based on proven work history) | Travel: 35–40%A day in this roleFrom first sketch to the cut table, you will translate design intent into production-ready, digitized trim patterns. You will partner with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and corporate facilities to mature patterns through iterations, validate feasibility, and enable efficient, high-volume manufacturing. Along the way, you will support current production, build prototypes, contribute to advanced projects, and help resolve build and quality concerns with cross-functional teams.What you will doDevelop and digitize high-quality trim patterns, optimizing strategic seam placement and alignment for manufacturability and aesthetics.Define, improve, and troubleshoot sewing processes; drive optimization on the floor.Use Gerber cutting systems and Lectra AccuMark to create and manage pattern data; experience with embroidery software is a plus.Apply deep knowledge of adhesives, bonding materials, and application methods to improve wrap quality and throughput.Engineer robust wrapping approaches for automotive interior components using leather, TPO, PVC, and other synthetics.Identify risks ahead of time and propose preventative actions for cutting, sewing, and wrapping operations.Evaluate and communicate cut/sew/wrap design criteria and feasibility to engineering and design partners.Document work clearly and present findings using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.Approach process development with flexibility, curiosity, and openness to innovation.What you bringAdvanced pattern-making expertise (required).Comfort working directly with internal and external customers.Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, when needed.Ability to follow direction while providing constructive, data-driven feedback.Strength in diagnosing and developing wrapping processes end-to-end.Expert-level sewing capability and problem resolution for sewing-related issues.Regular travel to production facilities, including international trips, to support launches and manufacturing.Availability to travel up to two weeks per month during peak program launches.Active participation in corporate training, workshops, classes, and seminars.Consistent 5S practices; maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.Self-starter who operates with minimal supervision.Comfort with multitasking and shifting priorities with limited notice.Team-first mindset with a track record of contributing to group success.Ability to repeatedly lift up to 35 lbs. per shift, and to kneel, reach, and maneuver materials as job duties require.ComplianceA successful candidate will be subject to a background check and must receive satisfactory results of the same, as a condition of joining the team.By applying, you attest that the information you provide is accurate and complete.
