Animal Caretaker/Office Support

The animal caretaker position requires not only the physical ability to handle large dogs, cats, and general shelter duties, but the ability to complete office related work, interact with the public both in person, on the phone and computer. The position is a full-time hourly position without benefits and requires flexible day, evening, and weekend shifts.

The animal caretaker position reports to the Shelter Director or alternate.

The position is responsible for completing daily operations which include but are not limited to:

Animal care and feeding.

Working with volunteers.

General shelter health, safety and cleanliness based on established protocols and procedures.

Updating and maintaining the electronic animal record as well as the vet animal record which includes intakes, returns to owners, adoptions, transfers, and deaths.

Preparing records for exams and surgery.

Dispensing medications, vaccines, and treatments per veterinarian recommendation.

Assists with volunteer orientation.

Works independently and ensures the policies and procedures are adhered to.

Responsible for working with volunteers in regular care and cleaning shifts.

Assist with overall process of adoption applications and animal placement.

Assist with inventory on all supplies.

Assist with fostering relationships with the community.

Assist with maintaining relationships with other local animal welfare organizations.

Qualifications

Work or volunteer experience at an animal shelter, veterinary clinic or boarding kennel required.

Ability to work without supervision.

Professional, pleasant public image.

Computer literate and ability to operate office equipment.

Excellent oral, written and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Able to work flexible hours, which will include evenings and weekends.

Physical needs: ability to sit, stand, bend or kneel for an extended period, ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions and the ability to restrain 100 plus pound animals.

Work Environment

Working conditions include possible exposure to dangerous, diseased, frightened and injured animals. Possible exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and drugs.

Possible emotional situations including animal injury, abuse, and animal neglect.

Physically active working conditions.

Policy and procedure based for health and safety.

THIS IS AN ANIMAL CARETAKER POSITION; COMPUTER AND OFFICE SKILLS ARE NECESSARY!
