Mechanical Estimator

A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking a skilled Estimator with a strong background in HVAC/R systems and design-build project delivery. This position plays a critical role in generating accurate proposals and system layouts from concept to completion. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with mechanical estimating and is proficient in Bluebeam and CAD. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and takeoffs for HVAC/R projects based on plan/spec documents, field walks, and load calculations
• Use Bluebeam and CAD to develop system layouts and support accurate proposals
• Collaborate with sales, project management, and field teams to ensure bids reflect scope, constructability, and cost-efficiency
• Support design-build initiatives, including equipment selection, duct/piping layouts, and performance specifications
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, and pre-bid walkthroughs to gather project-specific information
• Assist in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and project handoffs
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HVAC/R systems, codes, and industry best practices

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, HVAC/R design, or project engineering
• Strong proficiency in Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Excel/Word
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings
• Familiarity with various HVAC/R systems including chilled water, DX, split systems, VRF, and refrigeration
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and work under tight deadlines

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience estimating design-build or plan-spec mechanical projects
• Exposure to healthcare, industrial, marine, or commercial environments
• Understanding of load calculation tools, energy modeling, and lifecycle costing
