Project Search Job Coach

The Project SEARCH Job Coach provides training and support for interns with disabilities, business coworkers, families, and school district personnel to ensure success during the work site internships and/or a competitive job. The Project SEARCH Job Coach delivers individualized employment training and support services to young adults with disabilities participating in vocational rehabilitation programs. The Project SEARCH Job Coach assists interns with job readiness, job placement, on-the-job training, and long-term employment retention while promoting independence and self-advocacy.

Primary Accountabilities

• Performs job coaching and job development at any Health First facility or local employer within the Brevard County community throughout the year.
• Provides one-on-one job coaching and workplace support to interns with physical, intellectual, developmental, or mental health disabilities.
• Collaborates with Instructor regarding specific job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities.
• Coaches interns in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and appropriate behaviors as they relate to successful employment.
• Communicates with Instructor for all decisions regarding any issues that may affect student success at a worksite internship and at offsite employer.
• Provides professional, courteous communication and information to customers, staff, families, and community partners.
• Maintains flexibility with work schedules, including non-traditional hours and varied days, to meet intern employment needs.
• Ensures the safety of the interns in the various worksite internships or environments within Health First, Inc. and offsite employers. This may include a wide variety of departments, offices, and classroom community environments.
• Adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements concerning the safety and welfare of interns.
• Protects the confidentiality of business and student information in accordance with applicable laws and program standards.
• Performs hands-on training activities; approximately 90% of the role requires walking, bending, and actively teaching interns tasks such as cleaning, folding, stocking, and entering inventory information into computer systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: Two (2) years of successful experience working with interns or individuals with disabilities.
• Licensure: None
• Certification: None
• Additional Requirements: Must meet one of the following and complete the Vocational Rehabilitation Best Practices Support Employment Part One, and receive approval from Vocational Rehabilitation within six (6) months of start date:
• Four (4) years experience in public vocational rehabilitation program; experience in job placement, job coaching, or counseling, or other related experience working with persons with disabilities OR
• Masters degree in a related field (e.g., Rehabilitation, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or Economics) and six (6) months experience as described above OR
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Rehabilitation, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or Economics) and one (1) years experience as described above OR
• Associates in related field (e.g., Rehabilitation, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or Economics), or masters degree, and Bachelors degree in unrelated field, and two (2) years experience as described above.

• Ability to coach interns with disabilities effectively.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Accurate documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to motivate and support interns toward employment goals.
• Strong relationship-building skills with interns, families, and professionals.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours based on interns needs.
• Ability to travel throughout Brevard County.
• Ability to meet and pass school board screening requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensure: Drivers License and a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and maintained.

Physical Requirements

• Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
• Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
• Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
• May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
