Fund Controller - Private Credit / Asset-Based Lending A leading global investment management firm is seeking a Fund Controller to join its Alternative Funds Finance / Financial Control team. This role will support a growing private credit and asset-based lending platform focused on complex alternative investment strategies, including private credit funds, a BDC, asset-backed lending, commercial and residential real estate equity and debt, bank loans, specialty finance structured products, subordinated debt, privately held equity, fixed income, derivatives, and other illiquid or unique securities. The Fund Controller will be responsible for financial control, accounting, reporting, NAV oversight, fund administrator management, liquidity and treasury support, audit coordination, regulatory reporting, and key investor, client, and board deliverables for a subset of alternative funds. Key Responsibilities Manage the monthly NAV close process performed by the fund administrator, with a focus on complex and illiquid asset accounting, valuation, fee and expense review, and performance reporting. Oversee investment closing processes for illiquid assets, including finance, treasury, accounting, and reporting workstreams. Partner closely with portfolio management, tax, legal, operations, financing teams, external auditors, and the third‑party fund administrator. Prepare analysis related to the fund investment pipeline, liquidity, capital calls, distributions, and future cash flow projections. Support the design and setup of investment structures for illiquid investments in partnership with tax and legal teams. Manage fund expense processes and help identify, escape, and resolve accounting, reporting, and operational issues. Oversee external audit, regulatory reporting, debt covenant compliance, and other financial reporting requirements. Own financial information for investor reports, capital statements, annual audited financial statements, and SEC filings, including 10‑Q and 10‑K reporting. Prepare and review materials for the Board of Directors. Respond to client, prospective client, and consultant information requests in a timely and accurate manner. Help lead Alternative Funds Finance projects, process improvements, reporting enhancements, and technology initiatives. Research new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on fund financial statements. Required Qualifications Approximately 8-10 years of experience in financial accounting, audit, fund accounting, fund finance, or a related function within an alternative investment manager, asset manager, fund administrator, public accounting firm, or similar environment. Strong exposure to alternative investment products such as private credit, real estate, private equity funds, hedge funds, BDCs, asset‑backed loans, specialty finance, or other illiquid investment strategies. Experience with NAV close, fund financial reporting, fund administrator oversight, external audits, regulatory reporting, investor reporting, and complex investment accounting. Strong knowledge of US GAAP and investment company accounting. Ability to implement accounting and reporting processes for investment structures across multiple asset classes. Experience reviewing fees, expenses, valuations, performance reporting, capital activity, fund cash flows, and financial statement deliverables. Advanced Excel skills and experience with Bloomberg. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Active or inactive CPA license strongly preferred. Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a highly technical fund accounting or fund controllership professional with strong alternatives experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex reporting processes in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. This person should be comfortable working across internal investment, legal, tax, treasury, operations, compliance, and external service provider teams, while maintaining ownership of accurate and timely financial reporting. Strong communication, organization, project management, analytical skills, and a desire to understand complex transaction flows are important for success in this role. Engagement Details This is a long‑term contract opportunity with an initial expected duration of 3+ years, with potential to extend or convert to direct hire. The role is based in Midtown Manhattan and follows a hybrid schedule of four days onsite and one day remote. Standard business hours are expected, Monday through Friday, with a 40‑hour work week. Compensation is flexible, to be in the $80-$100/hour W2 range, with access to medical benefits and PTO.
