About the Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist Position

The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT) are seeking experienced pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists for the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease.

Candidates will possess experience caring for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease, and adults with congenital heart disease. Primary responsibilities include oversight and direct patient care before, during, and after cardiac surgery. Other duties involve developing and implementing care protocols, overseeing QI registries relevant to Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia, and leading education, quality assurance, and ongoing performance improvement initiatives. Candidates will also participate in coordinated outreach efforts for the Center.

A successful candidate will hold an appointment in the Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at Dell Medical School, with regular participation in educational activities for medical students and residents. Opportunities for collaboration with medical and allied specialties will be encouraged to support innovative program development and clinical research initiatives.

Candidates must be board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesia and Pediatric Anesthesia with additional formal training in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care prior to, during, and after cardiac surgery in a pediatric cardiac anesthesiology setting.
• Develop and implement patient care protocols.
• Oversee QI registries pertinent to Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
• Lead education, quality assurance, and ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
• Participate in coordinated outreach efforts for the Center.

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certified in Anesthesia and Pediatric Anesthesia; additional formal training in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
• Meets applicable credentialing and privileging standards for specialty.
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain prior to appointment).
• Demonstrated clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
• Ability to influence and motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
• Innovative self‑starter committed to excellence with initiative necessary to perform as part of a team for both established and new programs.
• Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery.
