This position is responsible for maintaining and improving efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs all other related work as required. Qualifications Education, Training and Experience High School graduate 48 College credits or a paraprofessional certificate Experience working with adolescents in a school setting (preferred) Essential Functions Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating environment. Assists the teacher in planning and preparation of daily activities. Aids instructional efforts of the teacher, and grades and marking of papers. May lead classroom activities. Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning conducts Supervision of students. Prepares instructional materials and supplies for use. Tutor students as directed. Presents subject matter to students under the guidance of a teacher utilizing a variety of methods. Assists students to set and maintain standards of appropriate behavior. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs of the students. Implements the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. Is available to meet with students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so. Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning their educational and behavioral progress. Performs other duties as needed. Knowledge, Ability and Skills Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge and use of materials and resources in accordance with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location; demonstrates effective classroom management skills and provides for sound and effective techniques of instruction. Ability: Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; ability to work with a diverse community. Culturally proficient leadership skills including visioning, active listening, coaching, facilitation and use of data for decision making. Ability to adjust presentation of subject content to student needs and interests. Effectively utilizes class space, instructional facilities, equipment and materials. Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain relationships with all school employees, students, teachers, parents and vendors. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions and time pressure. Skills: Enthusiasm for learning and interest in students. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior. Demonstrates effective knowledge of curriculum content. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Sensitive to needs of a diverse student population. Serves as a role model and mentor to young students. Physical Requirements Must possess sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact. Physical capability to operate office equipment and perform tasks such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions. Supervision Scope: Performs routine duties that are clearly defined by the protocol and SOP. Received: Works under the direct supervision of an administrator, teacher or department head.
