2026-27 Special Education Paraprofessional - Council Grove Elementary

Position Special Education Paraprofessional – Council Grove Elementary, Western Heights Public Schools, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Starting Date: Immediately. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Completion of Para Pro or WorkKeys Assessment or 48 hours of college coursework Previous work or volunteer experience with children or teenagers and/or clerical experience preferred Job Responsibilities Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by teacher; supervise students in instructional settings, off‑campus activities, and non‑instructional activities such as recess, assemblies, emergency drills, lunch periods, and occasionally supervise the class in teacher’s absence. Prepare, create, and adapt instructional materials; prepare bulletin boards and other teaching aids; assist students with assignments; set up and operate equipment for instructional purposes. Serve as chief source of information and assistance for substitute teachers. Assist teacher with student behavior management strategies; assist with out‑of‑control students when necessary; alert teacher to students’ special needs. Assist with grading student work, taking attendance, and other necessary paperwork. May assist students with personal care needs and provide minor first aid. Perform housekeeping duties in classroom to keep it neat and clean; may assist students in boarding and getting off bus. Operate photocopier, laminator, and other small machines; use computer for simple tasks such as email; assist teacher in obtaining supplies needed for scheduled activities; assist teachers with compiling student’s work to send home weekly; send home letters to parents as required. May assist with playground, hall room, cafeteria duties as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervision Exercised: An incumbent does not supervise. Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions This job requires frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching, reaching above shoulder, and pushing and pulling. There is occasional lifting up to 45 pounds to assist with chairs, classroom equipment, and supplies. The incumbent must have dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines. Must be able to supervise students in classroom and outside, communicate with students and parents, and move around classroom, media center, cafeteria, campus, etc. Must be able to assist students with normal activities.
