Asst coach $3500 Summary of Position Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Establishes good relationships with students, parents and other staff members. This position will assist the head coach. Minimum Qualifications Education – GED or higher High School Varsity or Collegiate level experience as an athlete or coach. High School head coaching, college head coaching and/or college assistant coaching experience preferred. Criminal Background Check – A national, state and local criminal records and sex‑offender registry check will be obtained and approved by Duneland before an offer will be made. Principal Responsibilities and Duties Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assess students’ skills and assign team positions. Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development. Work with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. Assign duties to an assistant coach as necessary. Coach and instruct students, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observe students during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times. Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and encourage student athletes to maintain a high academic standard. Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury. Conference with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their students. Follow National Federation, IHSAA, Duneland Athletic Conference, Duneland School Corporation, and Chesterton Middle School regulations governing the athletic program. Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators. Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Work with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participate in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment, inventory, and other related records. Do not leave the athletic premises until all athletes have gone home or been picked up by their parents. Unless an emergency exists, coaches are not required to give rides to athletes. Coaches are subject to being evaluated by the athletic director and/or administration. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Proficiency in the use of all technology for the sport and record keeping (e.g., computers, copiers). Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Docs). Demonstrate organizational and time‑management skills. Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators.
