Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions. Duties and Responsibilities Report to the athletic director and collaborate with high school principals. Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches, in collaboration with the athletic director and respective principals. Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training needed for individual and team success. Model behavior that promotes socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment. Continuously upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. Implement athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools Board of Education and ensure consistent application of state and league regulations. Maintain discipline, manage grievances, and increase morale and cooperation. Perform additional duties assigned by the athletic director or principal. Staff Responsibilities Establish core philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings. Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth through clinic attendance per local policy. Delegate duties, supervise implementation, analyze staff effectiveness, and evaluate assistants at season's end. Administrative Duties Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements. Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and coordinate with maintenance and school staff. Maintain documentation for state and system requirements: physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility. Safeguard equipment, recommend or update equipment guidelines, and ensure operations within budget. Submit annual inventory and current records for equipment. Authorize access to equipment rooms and monitor cleanliness of locker rooms and facilities. Student Responsibilities Mentor athletes, encouraging trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Monitor grades and conduct; oversee practices, games, and travel. Provide training rules and unique sport regulations. Initiate injury and medical policies, manage injury paperwork within 24 hours of incident. Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians; enforce discipline and communicate with parents regarding ineligibility. Assist athletes with college or advanced educational selection. Finance and Equipment Participate in budgeting with athletic director; recommend equipment specifications and colors. Operate within budget and account for lost or unreturned equipment. Arrange issuance, storage, and reconditioning; produce inventory records. Mark and identify all equipment before issuing. Permit athletes to be in authorized areas only at appropriate times. Monitor locker rooms and facility cleanliness. Public Relations Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings. Promote the sport within the school and externally through media, community programs, or other feasible means. Ensure quality of releases to local media and maintain good relations with news outlets, boosters, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
