Specimen Processing - Pre-Analytical Assistant I - 3rd Shift

Title: Specimen Technician Pre‑Analytical Assistant I – 3rd Shift Location: FL_MI_10200 COMMERCE PKWY, Miramar FL 33025 Duration: 11+ months Shift: 1a‑930a, Tuesday‑Saturday (rotational weekends) Basic Purpose Pre‑Analytical Assistant I supports general functions within the Technical Operations Department. Position Requirements Minimal data entry skills Good organizational skills Understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered Knowledge of specimen handling, delivery, and required quantities per test Familiarity with compliance regulations associated with test ordering Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursue continuous improvement Commitment to meeting internal and external customer requirements while carrying out routine duties Team‑based work ethic and willingness to support staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime Perform tasks with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness Manual functions: sorting, racking, pickup and delivery of specimens, specimen storage, centrifugation, aliquoting (may also run sorters in archive mode) Job Accountabilities Learn assigned duties and understand how all functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing interrelate. Identify and resolve problems with specimen types or missing information during sorting, racking, centrifugation, delivery, and storage. Research test order information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services to ensure compliance. Meet quality and production standards within six months of training completion. Complete all required written documentation that is understandable, legible, and time‑bound. Arrive on time, adhere to attendance guidelines, and cover for coworkers when absent. Acquire additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to progress to the next level. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements / Environment Handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production environment. Communicate effectively with all staff levels verbally and in writing. Maintain composure under pressure. Use good judgment when resolving problems. Adhere to Quest Diagnostics' Core Values, safety, compliance, and work‑process policies. Work in a biohazard environment complying with all safety requirements. Keep work area neat and clean; comply with 5S standards. Sustain long periods of sitting, standing, or walking; lift up to 50 lbs; maneuver large carts or racks. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment. Display work assignment flexibility and ability to adapt to change. Have flexibility regarding work schedule. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED. Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratory settings. Prior experience in a production environment preferred. Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred. Language Requirements MUST HAVE EXCELLENT UNDERSTANDING OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE, BOTH SPOKEN AND WRITTEN. Bilingual candidates strongly preferred; Spanish language skills are a plus but English proficiency remains essential. Additional Notes Use lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and protective wear when handling test samples.
