Senior Associate Attorney - Medical Malpractice Defense

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex medical malpractice defense matters from pre-litigation through trial, appeal, and final resolution.

• Represent physicians, hospitals, healthcare providers, and other medical professionals in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

• Develop case strategies, evaluate liability and damages, and provide clients with practical legal guidance throughout the litigation process.

• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.

• Prepare for and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and expert witnesses.

• Retain, prepare, and work closely with medical experts and other consultants.

• Handle settlement negotiations and mediations while maintaining a trial-ready approach.

• Appear before California courts for contested hearings, case management conferences, and evidentiary motions.

• Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with all court deadlines and procedural requirements.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, insurance carriers, healthcare providers, and referral sources.

• Mentor junior attorneys by providing guidance on litigation strategy, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation.

• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff to achieve successful client outcomes.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.

• Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably in civil defense litigation.

• At least 5 years of litigation experience, preferably handling medical malpractice defense matters.

• Strong experience managing cases independently through all phases of litigation.

• Demonstrated experience conducting depositions, arguing motions, negotiating settlements, and preparing cases for trial.

• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

• Strong verbal communication and client relationship management abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
