Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have Skills: IV insertion NG tube insertion Patient care Nursing process Patient assessment Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Appropriately performs patient care duties such as head-to-toe assessments, starting IVs, inserting NG tubes, performing dressing changes, administering medications, and inserting Foley catheters. Accesses Mediports and maintains ports throughout the shift. Assists with bone marrow aspirations at the bedside. Provides emotional support to patients and their families. Administers chemotherapy and biotherapy to patients. Administers outpatient treatments to oncology patients when necessary.
