About the Role
The Company is in search of an Associate General Counsel with a focus on servicing and title to join their legal team. The successful candidate will be the primary legal partner for the company's home equity investment product, specifically in the post-origination lifecycle. This role is pivotal in the servicing side, covering a range of responsibilities from onboarding to defaults, exits, and maturity. The Associate General Counsel will provide day-to-day legal counseling to the funding, post-closing, servicing, and investor operations teams, and will be instrumental in expanding the regulatory and compliance foundation for the product. The position requires a hands-on approach, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to build and maintain legal playbooks and processes. Applicants must have a J.D. and active bar membership, with a preference for those eligible for in-house practice in California. A minimum of 7 years' of experience in mortgage or consumer finance law is required, with a focus on residential mortgage or real estate-secured consumer finance servicing matters. The role demands a deep understanding of title, lien-priority, and recording issues, as well as experience in managing outside counsel and legal technology. The ideal candidate will have a background in default servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, or loss mitigation, and experience in building legal processes within a scaling legal function. The position is fully remote, and the company values a diverse and inclusive work environment.
