Senior NoSQL Database Engineer

job summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, technically strong Senior NoSQL Database Engineer with 5+ years of experience designing, deploying, and supporting self-managed and on-premises database platforms. We need a true builder-someone who looks beyond routine database administration to architect, automate, and scale mission-critical infrastructure.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between database requirements, core infrastructure, security, compliance, and application performance. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive operational excellence, mentor fellow DBAs, and take technical ownership of high-availability, high-performance database environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Architecture & Deployment: Design, build, configure, and automate self-managed and on-premises NoSQL database platforms.
• Production Operations & Support: Maintain high-availability environments through proactive monitoring, patching, performance tuning, storage expansion, capacity planning, and rapid incident resolution.
• Resilience & Business Continuity: Manage robust backup and recovery, replication strategies, and disaster recovery planning across all NoSQL platforms.
• Cross-Disciplinary Integration: Align database performance with underlying Linux systems, networking protocols, storage subsystems, application demands, and security standards.
• Technical Ownership & Mentorship: Lead design discussions, mentor DBAs, champion NoSQL adoption across the organization, and establish best practices.
• Documentation & Standards: Author clear architecture patterns, deployment guides, operational playbooks, and disaster recovery procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

Engineering & Architecture Experience: 5+ years of experience in database engineering and infrastructure support within self-managed or on-premises environments. Must have a proven history as a builder rather than just an operator, with demonstrated experience designing and deploying database systems from the ground up.

Core NoSQL Expertise: Concrete, hands-on production experience in the following platforms:

MongoDB: Document model design, cluster deployment, configuration, operations, replication, backup, recovery, and high availability.

Cassandra: Cluster deployment, scaling, performance tuning, replication strategies, troubleshooting, and production support.

Redis: Deployment, configuration, high availability, persistence, monitoring, and operational support.

Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) or comparable NoSQL technologies is a strong plus.

Systems-Level Expertise: Proven background in systems-level work, including Linux administration, platform upgrades, storage expansions, capacity planning, and deep performance troubleshooting.

Automation & IaC: Practical application of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools (such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, or Shell scripting) to streamline provisioning, deployment, and management.

Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Eager learner with strong technical ownership, comfortable connecting database requirements to broader infrastructure and application needs.

Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of collaborating effectively with developers, infrastructure teams, security, compliance, and technical stakeholders.
