Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Internship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Perform diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patients medically Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Eligibility and Stipend Externals at Glen Ellyn Animal Hospital typically work two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students of any class year are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend of $1,500.
