Role Overview As the Manager of Validation for Autonomy Systems, you will spearhead a dynamic team of systems and software engineers responsible for validating the innovative features and subsystems of our state-of-the-art automated driving stack. Your focus will be on defining operational parameters, understanding system behavior across varied conditions, and ensuring a comprehensive safety framework for our products. Your expertise in systems thinking and strong leadership skills will be essential in defining project requirements, designing validation frameworks, and producing compelling, data-driven evidence to support both product launches and continuous software release strategies. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will outline program objectives and develop actionable roadmaps that drive successful execution in systems design. About Our Organization The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) organization is at the forefront of autonomous vehicle development, leveraging advanced simulation technologies and unique iterative development processes. The Software Validation team is dedicated to facilitating software launches and ongoing release decisions using innovative validation and verification methodologies alongside targeted vehicle testing. We cultivate a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and excellence, pushing the boundaries of what's achievable in autonomous vehicle systems engineering. Key Responsibilities Lead a team of systems and software engineers in defining autonomy boundaries and determining system behavior in both standard and edge‑case scenarios, translating this into specific requirements and validation methodologies. Manage subsystem requirements and validation strategies for critical areas including system state management, ODD (Operational Design Domain) behaviors, and collision response. Create and maintain validation frameworks that encompass simulation, hardware‑in‑the‑loop setups, closed course, and real‑world testing environments. Establish and assess metrics and acceptance criteria that gauge success for these systems in alignment with safety objectives. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including safety, AI, simulation, platform, and product management to integrate validation outcomes into development workflows and program assessments. Utilize data and tools (e.g. Python, SQL, dashboards) to transform test results into actionable insights and recommendations. Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent; set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of inclusion and high performance. Represent your projects in program reviews and leadership presentations, delivering concise updates on status, risks, trade‑offs, and validation readiness. Advocate for enhancements to processes and tools that facilitate the development, traceability, and execution of system‑level validation plans on a scalable level. Essential Skills & Qualifications Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields. 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, robotics, systems analysis, data analysis, validation, or similar fields. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role managing engineers. Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including how to decompose complex systems and establish traceability. Proven ability to design and evaluate multi‑environment testing strategies including simulation and various testing methodologies. Proficiency in data analysis with strong skills in Python, SQL, and dashboard creation. Exceptional communication abilities, capable of simplifying complex technical discussions for diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to create structure and develop robust solutions in ambiguous environments and under tight timelines. Preferred Qualifications Experience in autonomous vehicle or ADAS development. Familiarity with defining and validating operational design domains and system behaviors in critical scenarios. Hands‑on experience in validating systems using robotics simulations linked to physical tests. Knowledge of requirements and test management tools and their integration into engineering workflows. Experience with hazard and safety analysis techniques. Track record of building and nurturing high‑performing teams of systems and validation engineers. Proficient in SQL, Python, and C++ for large dataset analysis. Adept at leveraging AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance software development speed. Compensation This position's salary range is $189,300 to $290,700. The actual salary offered will be contingent upon relevant factors.
