Emergency Department Registered Nurse

This role is essential within the Emergency Department, requiring a Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level to provide exceptional, patient-focused care. The position demands advanced skills, specialized certifications, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and optimal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care:
  • Lead coordination of the healthcare team to deliver safe, timely, and equitable care tailored to each patient.
  • Perform thorough assessments to identify individual patient needs.
  • Create and implement personalized care plans.
  • Monitor patient responses to interventions and ensure prompt follow-up.
  • Advocate for patients, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by all team members and the healthcare environment in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Promote evidence-based practices within emergency care.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment adhering to infection control and institutional policies.
  • Strictly follow aseptic techniques and infection prevention protocols.
  • Comply with regulatory standards including those from The Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, actively addressing systemic issues.
• Documentation:
  • Accurately record care activities, interventions, patient progress, and incidents in electronic medical records.
• Professional Development and Leadership:
  • Mentor and precept new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
  • Engage in continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement projects.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the emergency department.
  • Perform triage nursing duties and assume charge nurse or MICN roles as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness:
  • Respond decisively and skillfully in critical situations such as cardiac arrest, demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and calm under pressure.

Qualifications

Experience

• At least two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an emergency department or acute care setting; urgent care experience may be considered.
• Proven ability to manage complex clinical cases.

Competencies

• Technical Skills: Proficiency with advanced critical care equipment and technology; strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology related to critical care.
• Critical Thinking: Ability to make rapid decisions in high-pressure situations and prioritize effectively.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members, patients, and families.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years of emergency nursing experience may be considered in lieu of BSN.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the relevant state.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Current PALS certification.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification or equivalent, to be obtained within 90 days if not already held.
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or equivalent certification is preferred.
