COMPLIANCE/AUDIT INVESTIGATOR 2

Overview The Department of Business and Industry is hiring to fill multiple Compliance/Audit Investigator 2 positions within the Real Estate Division in Las Vegas. The incumbent will investigate complaints regarding alleged violations of law, applying NRS/NAC 645, NRS/NAC 119, NRS/NAC 119A, NRS/NAC 119B, and NRS 645H. Duties include conducting interviews, communicating with complainants, respondents, witnesses, attorneys, and constituents, providing guidance on applicable law, completing monthly caseload data, producing investigative and audit reports, and making recommendations based on evidence. The investigator may prepare cases for the Commission and testify at hearings. Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, business management, accounting, or a related field and two years of professional experience in investigative, auditing or program‑related positions involving federal and state laws and regulations, preparation of reports, and recommendations for sanctions or prosecution.
• Alternative: High school graduate with four years of experience, including at least two years in a similar investigative or auditing role, or two years as a Compliance/Audit Investigator I in Nevada State service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities Receive and review formal complaints; determine possible program violations, jurisdiction, and extent of violations; recommend initiation of a formal investigation. Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, employers, state and local agencies, and other sources to gather facts and develop leads proving violations or criminal intent. Prepare required forms and notices; deliver them to appropriate parties; respond to, review, and discuss with complainants and respondents. Develop case files, maintain logs and reports, and organize evidence with chronological documentation of investigative steps and all contact made. Gather and review evidence such as business and financial records, contracts, reports, bank statements, billing documents, sales transactions, client account records, personnel files, and historical data to identify trends and support complaints; serve subpoenas or other legal documents as needed. Conduct periodic audits by randomly selecting firms or businesses or as required by state law; review transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws; evaluate internal procedures, fiscal controls, and financial statements; explain provisions and discuss audit findings and recommendations. Prepare investigative and audit reports that include examination results, known violations, statement of facts, case summary, exhibits, witness statements, conclusions, and recommendations; submit reports for hearings, prosecution, or fines and penalties; appear before governing bodies or courts to provide testimony. Perform related duties as assigned and work independently under general supervision, utilizing accepted investigative and auditing principles and practices.
