Forensic Nurse Examiner

Overview Mission Health in Asheville, NC is seeking a Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide trauma-informed care to patients impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, and other interpersonal violence. As part of a collaborative, patient-centered team, you will perform specialized forensic examinations, collect and preserve evidence, document findings for legal use, and coordinate with law enforcement and advocacy agencies. This role offers access to advanced medical resources, ongoing education, and opportunities to support community health across Western North Carolina within a large, mission-driven health system. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and other trauma Perform detailed forensic examinations, evidence collection, and documentation in accordance with legal standards Collaborate with law enforcement, advocacy agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to support patient safety and justice Deliver trauma-informed, patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality and respect Testify in legal proceedings as a forensic nursing expert when required Maintain accurate medical and forensic records and follow chain-of-custody protocols Participate in on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 forensic nursing coverage Educate patients, families, and community partners on violence prevention and available resources Engage in ongoing professional development and training in forensic nursing best practices Support Mission Health quality, safety, and improvement initiatives Forensic evidence collection Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) practice Trauma-informed care Clinical assessment and triage Medical and legal documentation Chain-of-custody procedures Wound and injury identification/photography Interdisciplinary collaboration Courtroom testimony preparation Patient and family education Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A and/or SANE-P) certification preferred or obtained within specified timeframe Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred Training in trauma-informed care and forensic evidence collection Eligibility to provide expert testimony in court as needed Benefits Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k #J-18808-Ljbffr Chapter 13 Trustee Middle District of Alabama
