CDR General Services is seeking a Ship Fitter with experience in a barge environment to join the team in Westwego, LA . This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for a candidate with experience in metal fabrication, structural fitting, and marine/barge repair.

• Job Type: Temp to Hire
• Location: Westwego, LA
• Pay Rate: $25 per hour
• Schedule:
  • First Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Responsibilities

• Fit, align, and assemble steel structures on barges and marine vessels
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
• Mark, cut, and prepare steel components for welding and installation
• Work closely with welders, supervisors, and barge repair crews to ensure proper fit-up
• Repair and replace structural components such as plates, frames, and bulkheads
• Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and accurately
• Verify alignment, dimensions, and structural integrity of barge components
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment onboard or in dry dock areas
• Follow all safety procedures and quality standards in a marine industrial setting

Requirements

• Previous experience as a structural fitter in a barge or marine environment required
• Strong knowledge of barge repair, marine fabrication, or heavy steel structures
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings independently
• Experience with steel layout, fitting, and assembly in marine conditions
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work in a physically demanding marine/industrial environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
