This role will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week. In this role, you will own the design and development of advanced closures systems for Bloom Energy’s current and next generation products. This position is an end-to-end engineering role encompassing a fully functional design, aesthetics with integrated closures, for doors, hinges, handles, locks and special closure moving panels.The ideal candidate has a combination of hands-on experience, product design and leadership skills. They have experience in the automotive industry having delivered cars and trucks to the vehicle marketplace, or in NEMA 4X compliant enclosures, sealing strategies and manufacturing approaches that survive real world deployment for decades.Role and Responsibilities: Lead development and integration of next generation enclosures structural and closures systems including sheet metal, latches, hinges and sealingPackage and integrate mechanical and electrical components ensuring proper kinematics and clearanceManage BOM structures and design changesCreate and modify 3D solid models in SolidWorksLead investigations into system quality issues, lifetime or reliability problems as discovered, mitigate future issues with root cause understandingArchitect sealing & weatherproofing strategies for long-life deploymentsLead enclosure benchmarking for current and future productsLead and manage the performance and regulatory testingInterpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into product designs Conduct root-cause failure analysis and implement corrective design improvementsManage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall enclosure development milestones and prototype/ production build eventsSkills and Experience: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with evidence of exceptional ability 7+ years mechanical design experience in structural systems & enclosure designProven track record of ownership of enclosure and seal designs from concept (new or improved) through productionStrong background in DFMA for sheet metal, weldments, extrusions, and assemblies.Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks)Comfortable moving between analysis, prototyping, and hands-on debuggingExperience using FEA to guide real engineering decisionsAbility to work cross-functionally and hit aggressive schedulesBloom Energy is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit.
