We are seeking an experienced Dispatcher to join our family-owned company. The ideal candidate will possess experience that aligns with our values to become part of our extended family. As a strong communicator, disciplined hard-worker and self-starter, this person will ensure our marine vessels are operating in the most efficient way possible.

Northern Marine is part of the full-service model the Egan family of companies has developed and fostered over 3 generations along the Illinois River.

  RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Responsible for coordinating and dispatching marine vessels, primarily tugboats and barges.
• Schedule all vessel movements ensuring safety protocols are followed.
• Communicate with all vessel crews regularly.
• Coordinate with docks and barge terminals to ensure our customers’ deadlines are met.
• Update and track facility fleeting and submit fleeting information to AR for invoicing.
• Track vessel locations using GSP systems and coordinate with port authorities accordingly.
• Communicate status updates to all customers regularly.  
• Assure all facility transfers and vessels are operated in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and in such a manner as to afford protection against hazards to life, property, and the environment.
• Assist in analyzing operational data to identify efficiency improvements.
• Interface with customers, marine & shoreside employees, vendors, pilots, and regulatory officials.
• Assist in the creation and/or revisions of policies and procedures.
• Conduct performance evaluations.

  SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must qualify for and maintain a valid and active TWIC.
• Must have the ability to learn and become proficient in industry specific systems including TowWorks and MobileOps.
• Maintain a valid state issued Driver’s License with reliable means of transportation.
• Ability to function effectively in a team environment where sharing information is critical.
• Strong leadership and administrative abilities
• Have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional demeanor with excellent customer service.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies.
• Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely, efficiently, and with a high degree of accuracy.
• Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft, Adobe, Google, etc.) 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Most duties include sitting for long periods of time, long hours on computer keyboard viewing a computer screen, and some lifting (up to 30 lbs.). However, specific duties will include climbing ladders and stairs; standing, kneeling and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; repetitive bending, twisting, and stooping; lowering self through 18” diameter hatches and crawling through small spaces; and lifting or pulling heavy equipment objects from various levels ranging from 10-100 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most duties are conducted primarily in an office during normal business hours. However, some work may be required to be conducted remotely via technology, or while traveling in a vehicle, plane, or at a hotel environment. This position requires night and weekend work.

Additionally, specific duties will be required to be performed away from the office outdoors and subject to inclement weather (snow, ice, extreme heat, rain, fog, etc.). This work may be performed onboard a vessel in rough waters with unstable footing conditions, on shore at various facilities, indoors in various buildings, shops, and warehouses, or within confined spaces.

Schedule

Monday – Friday 0700-1530

After Hours On Call Every 3rd week or as needed

*On Call includes 24-hour coverage nights and weekends
