The work of the Adams Street Foundation is rooted in our belief that education can empower young people from historically underserved communities . We create change one student at a time. Staff members support students with enrichment services to prepare students for college. Our students are empowered, analytical learners who ask questions and challenge simplistic answers. As the nonprofit partner of the Urban Assembly School for Law & Justice (SLJ), a law-themed non charter public school in Brooklyn, the Adams Street Foundation (ASF) integrates pre-college enrichment, college and career preparation and counseling into the school's curriculum, preparing underserved high school students for success in college. Adams Street Foundation supports 400 students in grades nine through twelve, the majority of whom live near or below the poverty line and will be the first in their families to go to college. ASF provides the students with high-quality, broad based programs and support services ensuring every student graduates high school and attends and succeeds in college. The Adams Street Foundation is seeking mission-focused candidates for the position of Executive Director. The ideal candidate shares our passion for helping young adults and will be energized to lead ASF as it prepares to serve new generations of students. Keys to success will include mobilizing current and prospective supporters as well as collaborating with school leadership. This position represents an extraordinary opportunity to impact every aspect of the Adams Street Foundation. The Position: The Executive Director will develop and implement an overall strategy for fundraising to support the evolving needs of SLJ students and families. The Executive Director will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented role where their work holds significance every day. The Executive Director will demonstrate project management skills, organization, and attention to detail across all aspects of their work. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with school leadership, the ASF Board of Directors, donors, and community partners. Development Leadership & Strategy: The Executive Director understands both the science and art of fundraising and as the lead implementer will hit the ground running to build on existing relationships and develop new relationships and funding streams. The Executive Director will be responsible for building, leading, and managing all aspects of the development program, including strategic development, the annual fundraising gala, grant management, individual giving, and corporate and foundation relationships. This is a unique opportunity to build from a solid base of support to shape and ensure long- term stability. Spearhead and manage all activities related to the annual gala. Research and identify new opportunities and implement a strategic vision of development that will grow and diversify the donor pipeline. Provide strategic direction, inspiration, and practical support to the Board of Directors to engage them in fulfilling meaningful organizational strategies and priorities. Nurture institutional fundraising's full lifecycle, including grant proposal and report writing, prospecting and research, and cultivation and stewardship. Relationship Building: This is an executive position participating in a collaborative educational environment, growing internal and external relationships, as well as leading a team to ensure the day-to-day operation of the foundation runs smoothly. As a thought partner with the principal of SLJ, the Executive Director is a collaborator and favors the culture of a close-knit team. Go beyond the act of solicitation to build relationships with donors Skillfully network, adapting nuance in tone, voice, brand, and content to fit the audience and goals. Lead and develop the existing team while balancing program responsibilities and fundraising initiatives. Collaborate closely with SLJ’s principal. Value ongoing cultivation and stewardship of all relationships to develop meaningful connections. Administrative Oversight and Coordination: Expertly moving between the tactical and overall vision, the Executive Director welcomes hard work with a willingness to lead teams to advance organizational effectiveness. The Executive Director implements daily operations with keen attention to detail, while never losing sight of the big picture. Oversee overall day-to-day management and business operations including monitoring budget and finance. Provide staff with a strong and supportive leadership presence. Lead with an analytical focus. Manage efforts to ensure strong inter-organizational communication and partnership with SLJ. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge and understanding of New York City education philanthropy, including major donors and foundations. Skills and Abilities: Organized and experienced with all aspects of fundraising. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including impactful messaging to diverse audiences. Proactive and able to prioritize.
