Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to: working in other function areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or to otherwise balance the workload.Establish work priorities and change priorities to meet changed circumstances, with the approval of the Lead or SupervisorInspect projects in progress and equipment for repairs and safetyMake recommendations for equipment or modifications to existing equipmentTrain other employees in proper maintenance procedures and equipment operations as directedEnsure proper inventory level of materials and parts for maintenance and repair workCoordinate and participate in various activities, including but not limited to:Installing water, sewer, and stormwater pipe systemsRepairing and maintaining water, street, parks, stormwater, sewer, and facility assetsPatching, paving, and grading roads and walkwaysConstructing and repairing concrete sidewalksPerforming street sweepingConducting vegetation control/pruning in City right of way, stormwater ponds, and easementsTroubleshooting SCADA/Telemetry for water/sewer facilitiesRepairing and installing uniform traffic control devicesConducting snow operations including anti-icing, sanding, plowing, and snow removalPerforming minor installations and repairs (carpentry, electrical, plumbing)Reading and maintaining water metersInstalling and maintaining hydrants and specialized water system appurtenancesInstalling and maintaining water and wastewater pumpsPerform all duties of Maintenance Technician I as required or directedReliable and regular attendance is requiredOther duties as assignedKnowledge of the methods, procedures, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of Public Works assets in the area of assignment; occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to Public Works projects; basic grounds keeping and equipment techniques; carpentry and flatwork; temporary traffic control applying MUTCD standards. Knowledge specific to assignment in utility: SCADA/Telemetry controls, programming, and troubleshooting, as well as electrical and pump controls maintenance and/or troubleshooting.Skilled in operating a variety of light and heavy equipment, including pick-up trucks, vac truck, lift truck, dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, manual and power tools, welding equipment, and other tools and equipment appropriate to given duty responsibility; communicating with and gaining the cooperation of co-workers, vendors, consultants, contractors, and the general public for the effective coordination of work and for resolving problems; and reviewing project plans.Ability to maintain records and prepare work reports; gauge project progress and recommend adjustments to meet deadlines or adapt to changing conditions in the field; meet required proficiencies to perform standby duty as determined by supervisor or designee; comprehend technical instructions and repair manuals; interact courteously and tactfully with the public; establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with coworkers and the public; and take direction from management and react and/or act accordingly.The Maintenance Technician II must have the overall stamina and ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity, including the ability to stand or walk for long periods of time, traverse rough terrain, work in or over water, work at heights or on scaffolding, and carry up to sixty (60) pounds. Job requirements may include the ability to climb up to one hundred (100) feet off the ground, bend, and/or work in tight or confined areas. Must be able to hear alarms and have the ability to audibly identify the presence of a danger or hazard.High school diploma or GED is required. Three (3) years of experience at an equivalent level in area of assignment or performing skilled or semi-skilled labor comparable to one or more functions of municipal public works is required. Current, valid, unsuspended driver's license required upon hire. Out of state candidates are required to obtain a WA state driver's license in accordance with state law. Washington State Traffic Control Flagger's certification is required within six (6) months of hire. First Aid/CPR certification is required within one (1) year. Class A commercial driver's license with tanker and airbrake endorsements is required within two (2) years.
