Para Educator

The State & Federal Para Educator works under the direction of the classroom teacher with identified children as required by the program curriculum. They assist in identifying academically at risk students. The Para Educator keeps accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.

Position Type: Classroom Assistant/Para Educator

Location: Heritage Elementary

Salary: HVPEA Contract, $15.25-$17.90

Reports To: Principal & Director of State, Federal & Preschool Programs

Status: School Year 2026-2027

Qualifications:

• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must meet ESSA requirements for Highly Qualified. (i.e. at minimum, and Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, OR successful scores on the ETS ParaPro Assessment)
• Previous experience working with at-risk students and families.
• Preference given to individuals trained in Positive Behavior Intervention Support methods, as well as conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work positively with staff members, parents, and board office administration.
• Ability to work well under direction of program coordinator, classroom teacher, special education teacher consultant, and principal.
• Must have ability to coordinate events and see initiatives through completion, as well as have demonstrated experience working as a team player and problem solver.
• Show evidence of initiative, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
• Ability to keep accurate records on activities with students as required by Title One program guidelines.

Essential Functions:

• To understand and support Huron Valley's State & Federal Program objectives.
• To monitor and implement positive behavior intervention support (PBIS) plans developed by all staff.
• To check in with/provide support for identified Tier 2 and 3 students, as specified in PBIS plans.
• To reinforce emotional regulation/problem solving skills (as specified through PBIS).
• To facilitate structured conflict resolution processes with students referred by staff.
• To reinforce conflict resolution skills to classrooms or groups.
• To participate in regularly scheduled in-service sessions, both at the local and county level.
• To attend staff meetings when requested.
• To provide students with sensory breaks throughout the school day as needed.
• To help create and follow a flexible schedule to best meet student needs.
• To keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.
• On an as needed basis para-educator employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.
• To perform other duties as required by the Social Worker or Building Principal.

Education and/or Experience:

• Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, OR successful score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Skills:

• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
