Job Description

The technician constructs, installs, and repairs a variety of structures and fixtures using wood and other materials, ensuring all work meets project specifications, local building codes, and company standards. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, operating hand and power tools safely, and collaborating closely with project teams on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Measure, cut, and assemble materials according to project specifications.
• Install structures and fixtures, including framing, drywall, cabinets, doors, windows, and flooring.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and building plans to guide construction activities.
• Perform repair and maintenance work on existing structures to maintain safety and quality.
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes and company standards.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and effectively.
• Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades on job sites to complete projects efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each project.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines while on site.

Essential Skills

• 1+ years of carpentry or construction experience preferred.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team on active construction sites.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on new construction projects.
• Familiarity with local building codes and standard construction practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions.
• Good communication skills for coordinating with supervisors and other trades.

Work Environment

You will work as part of a crew of approximately five people on new construction projects. The role is primarily outdoors in non–climate-controlled environments, requiring comfort working in varying weather conditions. The work is hands-on and tool-intensive, involving regular use of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment while adhering to site safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Vernon, IA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Mount Vernon,IA.
